Welcome!

Welcome to WordPress! For the time being, I’m going to post over here, due to some problems with Blogger – I’ve not completely abandoned the old blog, as I’m trying to figure out the best way to transition smoothly and not lose too many readers.

I’m still playing around with templates, so feel free to make suggestions.

The blogroll’s not complete yet, and probably won’t be for a few days – that cut and paste thing takes a while.

Welcome to WordPress. Once you get it fixed up it’s infinitely better than Blogger. The only issue I see with migrating (you should be able to do a page redirect code on your blogger template that will bring readers here) is anonymous commenting. Maybe WP has that covered somewhere? Or you could disable comments here and use haloscan?

Also, loading a lot of photos is a little bit of a pain in the ass, but since you can actually LOAD photos all the time without losing your photos or your post, it’s worth it.

    Congrats on leaving!

  2. Thanks, Wen! Actually I think that WordPress does allow anonymous comments – I selected the option that does not require users to log in or provide an email address.

Anyone know for sure? WordPress is bringing out my inner idiot.

  3. Meg

Congrats on your new digs. Good luck on working out the kinks. I cannot offer any helpful advice, since my inner idiot is more of an idiot than your inner idiot. Feel better?

Thanks for continuing to blog! Being a reformed stage electrician, it’s kind of nice to get a glimpse of what “could have been” if I’d stayed with it (and providing I moved over to film!). Keep up the good work!

    Congratulations on the successful transfer.

The idea of me (no technical skillz whatsoever) moving my blog anywhere seems scary and maybe even impossible. And frankly, I haven’t had too many problems with blogger (some, yes).

  6. Mazel tov. Hope the move is going well.

I made the move to Blogger from Blog-City many moons ago, and it was terrible. Hopefully the move to WordPress from Blogger is a little less nerve-wracking.

    Ciao, bella.

    Yay … you’re still around!

But please set up an RSS feed. It makes it much easier to keep track of what’s going on here.

  8. I will probably need some assistance in setting up an RSS feed – Blogger did it for me, and WordPress doesn’t.

As soon as I can get the feed up and running, I’ll have it done!

  9. Thanks for adding me to your blogroll! As mentioned previously, I’m a fan.

Welcome to WordPress – I think you’ll be very happy. I migrated to WP from the free godaddy.com blog application I started out using nearly a year ago – and, unlike with every other application on the planet, there was no easy way to migrate content. I cut-and-pasted every story, picture, link and comment.

And it was worth every minute of all the frustrating weeks that it took to so so.

WP is very customizable and has lots of fun widgets. Explore around a bit and you’ll find all kinds of goodies to play with.

When I was looking for RSS feeds, I basically went to every site I could find and grabbed off the code from their images and links, replacing their URLs with mine. Feel free to liberally rip mine off if you’d like.

  10. you’re one of my resting places. glad to read you will still be here.

  11. Good luck with the move, for now I’m sticking with blogger as the beta does everything I need it to for now.

I second the the rss request when you get the chance to set it up.

Please keep writing. Yours is the only blog I have or will ever read. I have never been disappointed, you are honest and funny and real. For the love of all that is holy, keep on keepin’ on.

  13. Welcome to WordPress! I made the switch to the me-hosted version about a year ago and love it!

About your RSS feed – the address of your feed is http://filmhacks.wordpress.com/feed/

and anyone using an agitator should be able to subscribe from there.

As far as directing people over here, anyone watching the old blog with an RSS agitator already knows, and if you were to go to your blogger page, delete out all of the code in your template and replace it with some sort of auto-forwarding code that will send people over here, that should work out for you.

  14. Congrats on the new digs. I’m surprised WP doesn’t do the RSS thing, the stand alone WP App does.

  15. Welcome to the wonderful world of WordPress! I got the me-hosted version about a year ago and never looked back.

About your RSS feed – the address of your feed is:
    http://filmhacks.wordpress.com/feed/
Anyone using and RSS Agitator can go there to subscribe

To tell people about your new home (1) you can assume that anyone using an RSS Agitator to watch your own site knows and (2) you could add an automatic re-direct into the code for your blogger template to send people over to your new place. Something like this –

Anyway, welcome to the blogger big leagues!

  16. hey! it didn’t post my code example (grrrr) let me try this again

  17. All right, I had to get creative. below is the address of a code example.

Well here you are! Any questions, you might ought to contact Sheila at http://www.getsheila.com as she has been using wordpress forever and is an admirer of your site – even has a link on her site to yours (Which she will doubtless soon be updating)I know she’d be only too happy to help.

I hear the Holidays can be a bit slow in your business – so here’s hoping you find some steady work soon.

  19. Congrats! I like wordpress much more than blogger, personally.

Peggy, your mails I get, but my mails to you get kicked. Get a fucking Mac! Or something.
I didn’t go to the shindig on the lot. They wouldn’t admit anyone w/ me. Like my wife. Family values, Holllywood style.

Peggy sez: You gonna buy me a Mac, Chuck? ‘Cause I’d graciously accept one. Just make sure it’s loaded with hacked software, please. Oh, and I found those colored sphere thingys we both liked so much at the hardware store in WeHo. 12 bucks each.
And that ‘no-guest’ policy sucked ass, didn’t it? I’d have had more fun had I been able to bring a guest.

Twelve dolla? I don’t love Jesus that much.
The 4 ones that I stole (for Jesus) will have to suffice. I have about 800 watts of Jesus lovelights in my front tree already (Para lights and other XMas lights stolen over the years), so I’ll be stopping there until Ted Haggard starts paying my bills.
Has Ted moved to Palm Springs yet?
