Totally Unauthorized

A side of the film industry most people never see.

It's been a rough night around here.

This sort of sums up this particular winter storm – it’s not just that it’s rainy and windy, but it’s rainy with an occasional strong gust of wind. There’s just enough time between gusts to give you and your umbrella a false sense of security and then…Pow!

You’re left standing in a downpour with an inside-out-brella, swearing like a sailor and trying to keep your camera dry.

Somehow I doubt this phenomenon is unique to Los Angeles, though.

What I want to know is, why do sailors swear so well?

Groovy – you go and be without a woman, in a boatful of guys for weeks and months on end, you’d swear too.

Peg – Two HUGE potted palm trees fell down in the pool area. I mean BIG palm trees. I didn’t think we had that much wind?

To quote the old Morton’s Salt tag line,
    “When it rains…it pours.”

Yep – I know what you mean.

In the UK we have a special brand of lunchtime rain. The sort where the weather cheers up at the beginning of lunchtime lulling you into a false sense of security. So you venture out on foot for fresh-air or to run a couple of errands and lo and hehold, at the exact moment you’re the furthest away from your original point, it starts to rain again – usually at a specific diagonal angle where your umbrella (no matter how to try to hold it) is unable to keep all of you dry and you spend the afternoon damp from the knee down. (Or higher up if you’ve been particularly unlucky – which is what happens when the wind is particularly vicious and blows both your umbrella and the rain around relentlessly, seemingly on purpose.)

    RIP Brolly.

My brolly ended up looking like this one last week. So I bought another at a stall outside the Underground station, and within about 5 minutes, it also looked like this. Guess I’m just meant to get wet.

Stupid wind kept me up last night, rattling the various metal bits on the roof. >:[

Still, you got a cool photo out of it… :)
